FREE AUDIOBOOKS ALL SUMMER LONG

SYNC Your Summer

SYNC is a free summer audiobook program for teens 13+ that gives away two complete audiobook downloads a week – pairs of high interest titles, based on weekly themes. SYNC is dedicated to introducing the listening experience to the teen audience and demonstrates that Required Reading can be completed by listening.

This is an outreach from the Audio Publishers Association and sponsored by AudioFile Magazine and titles are delivered through the OverDrive app.  Download the app in advance to whichever device you anticipate listening on and be ready to go!

It’s entirely free – all you have to do is enter your name and email address in order to download the two titles each week.

The only downside is you only have a week to download the audiobook pairing. Sometimes I forget when life gets busy, so you can also get a text notification when the new week’s books are available to download. Text syncya to 25827 for title updates and alerts when the new books are out!

The school week itself was long days again, but I do so enjoy the kids I have this year. With two sections of yearbook, it breaks up some of the monotony and repetitiveness of the day. My morning yearbook class is like a wild child, and my afternoon one is so chill. It’s interesting.

I was surprised to discover that our master writing teacher was looking for me one day after school to see what I had done because my kids that she teaches now were going on and on about various things that they already had learned in my class last year, and she wanted to learn a little from me to continue teaching in that same vein! That is validation. 🙂

Summertime Challenge: Challenge Wrap Up

desert CAMPING

This is a summer challenge hosted by Parajunkee. It runs through the month of June and has weekly link-ups.

Challenge Wrap Up

I have enjoyed participating in Parajunkee’s Summertime Challenge so much. This month has not been very productive for me in the least, especially since this should be my most productive month of the entire year. Indeed, that is far from the case, but I feel like I was productive in other ways than catching up on reading and scheduling reviews in advance.

This month I discovered some creativity lurking somewhere in my depths with some of my posts for this challenge, like my favorite things about summer and my other hobbies.

While this challenge hasn’t helped me get ahead with scheduling posts, it’s made me relax and take a break and appreciate summer for all that it is.

Summertime Challenge: Favorite Summer Place to Read

This is a summer challenge hosted by Parajunkee. It runs through the month of June and has weekly link-ups.

Favorite Summer Place to Read

I love to read out on the (covered) porch with Baby running around in the yard. I also love reading with my feet in the cool water. Since I primarily read on my Kindle, it’s not always easy to read outside, so I also find myself curled on the couch a lot of days, too.

Summertime Challenge: Books About Summer

Books About Summer

What are your favorite books about summer, or books you want to read that are about summer?

I don’t have a favorite book about summer, or any books in particular I want to read about summer, but I do love a few things about summer books.

I love summer romances. Most times we know they are going to end come the first leaf of fall and I hate that. I love reading about summer romances that last, that turn into something more and lasting.

I also love Texas summers. Anything set in Texas in the summer I’m all about. All of those sayings about Texans and their Texas pride is true. I love Texas, and Texas in the summer is just beautiful.

Summertime Challenge: Ways I Battle Blogging Slumps

Battling Blogging Slumps

I have been through some rough months since last September/October, but it was at Christmas that I really hit the worst of reading slumps I’ve ever been in. In May I finally felt I had really climbed out of it, after thinking each month this year that it was done, but then I’d relapse back. May finally did it. I think it was more of a life slump, or at least a work energy slump, but I’ll tell you my trick that seems to always make me feel better.

No matter what my reading habits have been before a slump, or what I need to read for review tours or as promised to authors, I have one thing that always seems to make me feel better. Sometimes it helps me get out of the slump, and sometimes it just makes me feel better.

My secret is middle grades books. They are fun and all about friendships. They are children and innocence and adventures.

My other favorite thing to read when I am in a slump is romance, usually historical romance. While sometimes it makes me feel down for a little while, or a little broken-hearted for the characters, I enjoy the stories. That’s just my personal thing. I love seeing people happy.

I’ve also heard other people say they need to completely get away from their blogs or their books. Some binge watch Netflix, some get out and do activities, find another small-scale hobby until they are ready to go back to the blog.

Thursday was my official last day of the school year. I was ready to leave Wednesday afternoon except for the final day formalities that must be done. It was incredibly nice to have an hour and a half lunch with my colleagues and just eat and talk like normal people. For the record, we have less than a 20 minute lunch every day, and that is spent wolfing our food down and discussing any issues in our hallway after we walk our students to lunch and before they send them back 5 minutes early.

Anyway, SCHOOL IS OUT! I signed up for summer school but didn’t get picked. I’m a little bummed because that’s a 13th paycheck, but for once I get the summer to myself (minus all of my training and curriculum writing days). After the year we had, and the one we all know is coming, I really need this time to destress and recharge. This year really got to me.

The man was gone all week, and I missed him even more for it. I picked him up yesterday at the airport and Baby and I crawled all over him with kisses.

Also, this lovely was unearthed from my first year. Yes, those are original cups, not reproductions. I drank out of them all the time as a kid.

FREE Audiobooks for Summer 2016

SYNC ~ Returning May 5

SYNC is a program that gives away TWO complete audiobook downloads each week throughout the summer program — a current Young Adult title paired thematically with a Classic or Required Summer Reading title.

This is an outreach from the Audio Publishers Association. It’s entirely free – all you have to do is enter your name and email address in order to download the two titles each week.

I took advantage of this opportunity for the previous two years, and I can vouch that they do not use your email address for anything other than an authentication. You do not receive a confirmation email, or any promotional emails either.

You can also get a text notification when the new week’s books are available to download. Text syncYA to 25827 for title updates and alerts when the new books are out.
