Newly Released Book

Uh…like….I don’t know? Y’all know I don’t keep up with new releases. I do not.

However, I do NetGalley, and I recently went in and did the big nasty and downloaded even more books. *sigh* I’m never going to dig myself out of the hole. These are two that I really want to read because of the titles!

Birthday Memory

My favorite birthday memory is from when I was in 4th or 5th grade. I can’t really remember which year it was. My mom let me invite a small group of friends and took all of us to the skating rink for my birthday party. It was the first time I had my own party without my brothers (one’s birthday is 10 days after mine, and then the other one is 10 days after that). It was so much fun and I enjoyed the girls I celebrated with, even though we didn’t stick together through middle school or high school.

Thing I Wish I’d Be Good At

I wish I was better at being an extrovert and connecting with people. I mean this in the sense that it takes A LOT to get me to be comfortable enough with someone to really come out of my shell beyond the workplace obligations or bare minimum social etiquette. I am HORRIBLE at small talk. Like, I find myself most times not even asking how the other person is doing. That’s how out of touch I am. I have tried this summer making it a point when I go to the store to ask the cashier. Given that, I don’t get even moderately close to people. And yes, I have RBF, so that makes it even harder.

I also wish I was UBER crafty and could paint like nobody’s business. I am limited in my creativity, but I wish I could draw and paint like I’ve been doing forever.

Thing About 2018…So Far

Honestly, my favorite thing about 2018 so far is my break-up after almost 4 years with The Man. (This happened at the beginning of March. You can read more about it here.) I do not mean this in a petty way (although…maybe – I’m trying to be honest here). This break-up has given me so many things I would not have had had I still been in that relationship with that person. Here’s what I can think of off the top of my head…

 

  1. I did not realize how depressed I was with him due to the living and work situations. I never saw him anymore, even on his weekends off. He would sleep until 5-7pm or later. We could never go do anything.
  2. I can go do things! And I don’t feel like I’m going to miss him going off to to work or miss out by not going.
  3. I am so much happier. It is like a huge weight has lifted off me.
  4. I don’t have to spend $400+ in gas and tolls anymore.
  5. I started making my room not temporary.
  6. I bit the bullet and moved out of the “temporary” living situation I was in.
  7. I know have a house all to myself.
  8. I am 15 minutes from work instead of 50.
  9. I have reconnected with Baby. While she still does her typical Eeyore self, she makes a point to come for attention when she wants it. And vice versa.
  10. I run around the house and play with Baby.
  11. I have a fucking office and library!!! SPACE TO WORK!!! I’m not working out of my lap anymore!
  12. I don’t have anyone making side-eyes about what I eat at home or out besides myself.
  13. I still have the pregnancy pillow and sleep like a rock.
  14. Baby gets in bed with me. And loves the pregnancy pillow.
  15. Karma gets you. And I just smile my evil smile and tell my kids, family, and friends.
  16. If I so choose, I can be intimate with someone. Yes, y’all…first time in almost 4 years.
  17. I don’t feel as harried and stressed.
  18. If I don’t want to go anywhere, there are no huffs.
  19. I can go to the grocery store prepared with a list instead of sprung on me – and no more snarky remarks about not knowing what I want.
  20. I can speak up about what I want – when I first feel the need to to the people who need to hear it. I don’t have to keep my mouth shut to avoid blowback.
  21. I have strengthened my relationship with my mom.
  22. I took the plunge and went to see a stylist about the extensions I’ve wanted for over half a year.
  23. I don’t live my life out of a suitcase, praying and hoping I have the right attire or enough underwear.
  24. I can blog and bullet journal freely, any time I want.
  25. I don’t have to live with or deal with a habitual liar.
  26. I don’t have to live with a cheater.
  27. I do not have to live with my affection being pushed away.
  28. Everyone can make Dick jokes.
  29. I can spend as much time as I want with my “crazy, loud” family and not feel bad for anyone else.
  30. I do what I want when I want.

Dream Job

I have always, for as long as I can remember (after ditching the idea of being a veterinarian) I have wanted to be a writer. An author. Published. I have these delusions that I’ll suddenly rise to writing fame and live comfortably for the rest of my life. While it is a dream, I do want to really consider it and work on some writing projects I abandoned long ago.

My back up dream job would be playing with dogs. Or doing the whole holding babies in the NICU. We can just snooze and cuddle all day.

Thing to Do First Thing in the Morning

That should say it all. Honestly, mornings are not my thing. Never have been. I snooze and snooze and snooze until I am careening into work at the last minute. I throw on clothes, do my bathroom stuff, let Baby out, and typically run out the door. However, I am trying to establish solid routines and figure out how long it all takes to get me going in the mornings, including getting back to my morning shakes and taking ALL my supplements and pills that I’m supposed to.

Otherwise, I like cuddling Baby. Always.

Summertime Memory

One of my favorite summertime memories from growing up was eating nice, cold watermelons on the front porch of my great-grandparents’ house (now my parents’) with my huge ass family. We would cut them long wise and every four or so people would share the half. We would salt them (and sometimes re-salt them) and spoon out the melon. There were seed spitting contests galore, including on each other. We would eat all the way down to the rind and then go throw them over the fence for the cows. Juice got everywhere! Running down your face and legs. You could not wear white, that’s for sure.

Lark also includes a weekly News & Notes post that features book, publishing, and other related news. I often find a little nugget in those that strikes me or catches me unaware. I don’t keep up with the twitter world, so I never know what’s going on.

Thing To Do Next To Reading

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ve seen some of my bullet journal posts every so often. That has become another one of my big hobbies and I’ve sunk a lot of money into what I have bought for my bullet journal. I think more than I have spent on plants and related expenses in the past three or four years. I think I need to put an embargo on myself! Here is the 2017 series of posts on my bullet journal. I have done a few posts this year (here and here), but then I went off the grid in late March so I haven’t shared anything new. Enjoy!
