book-blogger-hop

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week poses a book-related question. The hop starts on Friday and ends on Thursday. The purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers.

Do you always have a book with you? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews)

I guess technically I do since I have the Amazon Kindle app on my phone somewhere, but I have never used it. I used to bring my Kindle with me everywhere until my purse started getting too heavy. I have this past week been packing my new Kindle Oasis with me, thinking I would have opportunities to read throughout the day. So wrong.

If you were to write your own autobiography, what would the title be? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

Oh, I have some great album names on Facebook. They could be inspiring for writing the title of my autobiography:

  • Sliding in Sixth (this current school year)
  • Strong Roots (my plant jungle pictures in this new house)
  • The Jungle Reborn (previous 2 years plant pictures)
  • Saving Grace (the year after The Man and I broke up)
  • Summer Should Get a Speeding Ticket (summer before the break up)
  • Lifeisms (quotes and memes)
  • The Opening Page (first full year I took over yearbook)
  • Je Suis Prest (translation: I am ready, the year I got together with The Man)
  • The Year of the Broken Lanyards (the year I broke 6+ lanyards)
  • The Totally Not Bummer Summer (the summer before I moved)
  • Bungalow Life (the old house before I moved)
  • Some Things Never Change (things about my home, family, and the land we live on)
  • Summer Breeze (last year-ish of college)
  • Steel Magnolias + YaYa Sisters (teacher friends get together)
  • THIS Is Where I Come From (other things about my home and family)

Top Ten Tuesday: Auto-Buy Authors

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. For the list of past topics and future schedule, click here.

Auto-Buy Authors

I wish I could say my list of auto-buy authors was quite long because I am such a great supporter of the authors I love, but honestly it is actually quite a short list.

Nora Roberts

Diana Gabaldon

Kristin Hannah

Elin Hilderbrand

Juliette Harper

Jeff Anderson (fiction)

Christopher Paul Curtis

Walter Dean Meyers

Who are some of your auto-buys?

Book Blogger Hop ~ Self-Published

What do you like/dislike about self-published works? (submitted by Nicki @ Nicki J. Markus/Asta Idonea)

My biggest dislike of self-published works is the lack of editing. Both copy editing and plot editing. Both of these types of editors are integrally important to a well-crafted book. I have come across only a handful of self-published that can hold their weight in the editing regards. Often, the authors don’t want to pay for these editors. And as a reader with a strong English background, poor editing is a BIG turn off for me and I will share that far and wide. Even if it can’t be afforded, find the person you trust the best to proof your book.

I like that it is easier to access authors and their works than them having to go through all of the hoops through a publishing house, which accounts for the sometimes 70-80% price hike in published vs. self-published works.

Do you review all of the books you read? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews)

Pretty much. I can only think of a couple books since I started blogging that I haven’t reviewed. Even books I DNF after getting a significant way in, I will review.
