Synopsis ~ Game of Hearts
Kyla Summers was dreaming about silk but working with metal.
After putting the final touches on the timing belt for the 2015 Subaru Forester she’d been struggling with since that morning, she glanced at the clock. Six in the evening. Time to start shutting down. I’ll finish up the head gasket stuff tomorrow, she thought with a nod. For now, it was time to switch gears. She’d go upstairs from the shop to her apartment. Take a nice hot shower and ensure she got all the grease off before she started working with that new material she’d splurged on.
How the hell did she sleep through that?
“Asshole,” she repeated, squirming.
He shook his head, feeling the adrenaline start to wear off. “I can’t believe you’re still sleeping,” he said. “Kyla? Honey? You fell out of bed.”
“Baby, you fell out of bed.”
“No I didn’t.”
He smiled. “Yeah you did.”
“No, you did.” She sounded petulant, and rolled, presenting her back to him.
“You can’t sleep on the floor,” he said, trying for patience. “Your back will get all jacked up. Trust me.”
“Go ‘way,” she muttered.
“Kyla,” he said, more firmly, “I’m not letting you sleep on the floor.”
She blew a raspberry at him.
