Sunday Post ~ Happy New Year

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It is a weekly news post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase the books and other goodies you’ve received, and share news about upcoming events on your blog. Be creative and personalize it! To get in on the Sunday fun day, see the rules here: Suday Post Meme.

This week was very relaxing. We’ve had a drastic dip in the weather earlier this week, and now it is turning freezing cold again. This time I have my plants covered – hopefully well. I spent the week primarily sleeping. I’ve been staying up a little later than normal and sleeping late in the morning. Even after getting up, taking my morning meds, doing my sugar check, I’d fall back asleep on the couch most days for about an hour or more. I spent the rest of my time reading, prepping my new bullet journal, and watching a lot of Forensic Files. We went on our 2.5 mile walk every other night.

Christmas was a great day. When I got up, I prepped all the food that would be cooked indoors so that once we were ready to start, we had everything already out and ready. Once The Man woke up, we opened presents. We opened the dogs’ presents first. Once all theirs were opened and we were opening ours, both dogs suddenly were exhausted. Baby flopped over on the couch and went to sleep, and Cera passed out on top of all their new toys on the floor. They could have cared less about what we were opening and what was inside. We tried to coerce them into being interested, and they were not budging. It was almost like it was perfectly orchestrated and trained for comedic effect in a movie.

The Man cooked the ham outside and I cooked everything else in the kitchen. It turned out beautifully and I ate too much. We’ve been eating leftovers all week. Christmas night we went to the movies to see Jumangi and it was sold out. So we saw Downsizing instead. There is NO ending to the movie. It was just an abrupt stop. Like, did they run out of money? Did someone accidentally send the unfinished copy out? Joke’s on us, I guess?

I spent Saturday with my cousin for two of her childrens’ birthdays. They are unlucky to have their birthday within the days after Christmas, and her oldest’s and youngest’s birthdays are three days apart. It was nice spending time with my cousin, who I don’t get to see very often at all. Her older brother died in 2013, leaving behind his high school girlfriend who was a fellow classmate of ours, and his daughter. I get to see them even less and I was glad they were at the party and we could spend some time together.

I have been trying to finish out my Goodreads goal before the year is out – tonight! I still have 2.5 books to go! EEEK! This might be the first year I don’t make it. I did keep reading a couple Christmas books even after Christmas, and I have laid the holiday reads to rest. I finished The Duke and Miss Christmas and Christmas at Seashell Cottage. I am currently working my way through To the Duke, With Love.

  1. I am so glad to read that you and your man had a good Xmas together. Ham sounds so good. My Miguel doesn’t like it so we had roast for dinner for the holiday. Looks like the party went well. I haven’t been to any parties this month…yet. I hope tonight’s party is good. No matter what I get to spend another New Years Eve with my Miguel, so I have loads to be thankful for.
    Have a great week Charlie!

    • It was a great Christmas. I’m so glad he had to stay. 🙂 I am just fine not having gone to any parties. It was a lot of effort getting reading and driving the hour and a half for yesterday’s party. I hope you guys have a great NYE tonight!

  2. It sure sounds like you’ve had a wonderful Christmas and made the most of it. I stayed home with my son all week and we watched some movies and played Skip Bo. So needed to just let it all go for a while:) Have a Happy New Year!

    My Sunday Post

    • Oh, I love Skip Bo! One of my kids introduced it to me last year and I was hooked. The longer I’ve been home (yesterday was the first day I drove in two weeks), the more I look like a homeless person. I need this recoup time. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

  3. It sounds like you’ve had a lovely week, Charlie, and a wonderful Christmas. I envy your time relaxing. I was back at work after Christmas, but at least it wasn’t a busy work week.

I would like to see Jumanji too, but I seem to be the only one interested. We took my daughter to see Ferninand one morning. And we also saw The Last Jedi and Pitch Perfect 3. It was a three movie movie theater month for us–we hardly get to the theater at all anymore, so it’s a real treat.

You’ve come so close to reaching your goal! I hope you are able to get as much reading done today as you can.

I hope you have a Happy New Year, Charlie!

    • I assuredly needed this time. I think everyone kind of lays low the days between Christmas and NYE. I’m glad you had a good week. This is the first movie of the entire year The Man has initiated seeing. Usually he leaves it up to me, but on Christmas he said we were going to go that night to see it. I want to see Ferdinand, but I’ll be the only one, too. Doesn’t that stink?

  4. Hope you got your challenge finished to your satisfaction but if not so close. All the best for 2018 and thanks for visiting me at my blog, look forward to visiting back.

  5. Happy New Year! I hope you make it through your last 2.5 books, but if not, you came pretty darn close, so you should still be proud of your accomplishment. I’m glad you had a good Christmas, and that you were able to see some of your relatives over the holidays. Enjoy the rest of the winter break, and may 2018 bring you nothing but joy!

  6. Fingers crossed that you made your goal! I finished my last book at 11:55 on NYE so I was definitely scrambling! Glad you had a wonderful Christmas. That’s too bad about Downsizing though I’m not surprised after seeing all the negative reviews. I’m thinking I’m going to be skipping that but Jumangi looks fun! Have a great week and Happy New Year!
