Book Blogger Hop ~ 12.22.17

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week poses a book-related question. The hop starts on Friday and ends on Thursday. The purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers.

Have you ever asked co-workers to give you a book or B&N gift card if they got your name for a Secret Santa gift exchange? If so, did you get what you asked for? (submitted by Maria @ A Night’s Dream of Books)

We have done some VERY lowkey Secret Santa exchanges, and honestly, the last two years have been slim with participation. The rules also changed. It used to be every week in December leading up to our break you would give your person something. There was a total cap amount to spend and you filled out a questionnaire about yourself to help people out in buying for you, and on the last day before leaving we would have a big reveal in the library. I think one year I put on my sheet “I’m a blogger and Amazon gift cards are amazing for book buying.” I mean, let’s make it simple and easy and everyone gets what they like, right?

The last two years it has changed to “Sock Exchange” and the first year I got a McDonald’s gift card (for my french fry addition – complete with ketchup packets!) and some other small things and candy inside of a stocking. Last year I got some puzzle books and candy left on my desk. My person didn’t even try and I was disappointed. Does that make me ungrateful? Maybe I was spoiled because I had the same person the first two years and she was awesome in her giving and actually tried to be a Santa based on what you indicated.

Last year in yearbook, my students did a Secret Santa and the student who drew me did buy me an Amazon gift card for $10. A whole bunch of them polled me about random things, so I didn’t know who drew me, but they were all helping her out. She settled on the gift card and all the kids thought it was hilarious. I spent it that very day! 🙂

  1. Oh nice! Sounds like fun! Though I feel like it would be hard to spread it out for weeks on end! lol Guess I’ve never had that kind of situation come up so it sounds hard. But I guess it’s not as I could’ve likely done that based on what I bought for my blogger Secret Santa exchange!

    Here’s my Book Blogger Hop

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • It’s not big things – I think our limit has always been $15 total. Although I always do a little bit more. It’s easy to send a little something with a kid to deliver to your person. They always try to figure out who sent the kid, but over the years I’ve picked some good kids who haven’t given me up!

  2. That’s sweet that your student got you the Amazon card!

One of my previous jobs did a Secret Santa exchange, but we included lists. My list always included a Barnes & Noble gift card as a suggestion.
