My Favorite…Christmas Movie

My Favorite.. is a weekly meme hosted by Maureen’s Books. In this meme we share every week something we love with each other. Because let’s face it.. The world can be a dark place and it’s time to share something positive.

Christmas Movie

My favorite Christmas movie is still a movie from my childhood. I grew up in a small town and there was an independent movie rental store on Main Street. I remember to this day exactly which storefront it was housed in. My mother checked out The Nutcracker Prince, an animated 1990 version featuring Keifer Sutherland and Megan Follows, so many times it was ridiculous.

I remember watching The Nutcracker Prince when all the visitors came to our house following my great-grandmother’s death. I was stuck off in a bedroom to watch my latest favorite and I was interrupted by someone trying to find the bathroom. (Not hard. There were only 3 rooms, the kitchen, and the bathroom in this house with a hallway running down the length of the house, dividing it in half, and all rooms opening to the hall.)

Eventually with the rise of Movie Gallery and later Blockbuster, the little movie store closed down. I CRIED for days because I would never get to watch The Nutcracker Prince again. My mom still laments that she should have gone during the final days of their liquidation and bought the VHS.

I found copies for sale last year. On Amazon the DVD was over $150. At the time of writing this post, it’s down to below $75.

I did find a specific movie website that sells all manner of movies for all formats. I was so excited to find that I could buy and ship the DVD for under $25! I was in for a shock when I ordered it last year in November and the package never arrived until February so I won’t recommend the site.

I also love watching Home Alone and Love Actually during the holidays.

  1. I haven’t seen this one but it sounds like one I would have loved as a kid. That’s too bad it’s so hard to find now! One with think with all the streaming services and everything on line it’d be somewhere. I hope you did get a good copy of it even though you had to wait until February!

  2. That is some story. I love that. I’ve never seen The Nutcracker Prince but it sounds like a great one. What a crazy prices! My absolute favorite Christmas movie is Love Actually. I just can’t get enough of that one.
Thanks for signing up and sharing your favorite.
