Book Blogger Hop ~ 8.11.17

book-blogger-hop

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week poses a book-related question. The hop starts on Friday and ends on Thursday. The purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers.

Do you participate in readathons and/or reading challenges? (submitted by Kristin @ Lukten av Trykksverte)

I participate in several reading challenges. I love them, and I was always that kid striving to be the best (academically). I won a free trip to Six Flags, to the LBJ Ranch where I got to shake Lady Bird’s hand, and other stuff for being the top reader in my grade all through elementary. So yes, sign me up!

I have changed which challenges I participate in. There are SO many! Last year and this year well after the year was underway I discovered more challenges that I didn’t know about that I kind of really wanted to do, but this year I decided to limit myself and hone my focus…so that I could actually finish a reading challenge besides Goodreads. You can check out all my challenges over the years in the Challenges! tab up top. I still participate in a monthly and seasonal BINGO game just for fun, but my real focus this year is NetGalley. I’m making a little dent! Sadly, most of them also qualify for Shelf Love.

I tried participating in readathons in the past…but I suck at them. I always seem to have something going on when they crop up. I have wondered, though, how people who die-hard participate and update every HOUR with all kinds of info are able to get anything done. Like, are they locked in a closet without human contact? How are they able to get those posts rolled out EVERY hour? That’s crazy train.

  1. I wonder that about read-athon posts too! I often wonder how they get any reading done with all the online and blog posting they do . . . Maybe someday I’ll give it a try and find out!

Every year I come across reading challenges I want to participate in, and I have to remind myself I can’t sign up for everything. 🙂 I am not doing any challenges this year, which is a challenge in and of itself. I am enjoying my reading though. Not sure what I’ll do next year.

    Have a great weekend!

    • I think they have to pre-format all of them. It’s good that you are enjoying your reading. Sometimes challenges can be too much. That’s why I cut out so many I didn’t feel strongly about. You should do the Alphabet Soup challenge with me next year! It’s really easy and just for fun.

      • You know, every year I consider doing an alphabet related challenge. Maybe next year is the year. 🙂

  2. Besides the Goodreads Challenge, I haven’t participated in any other challenges. The ones you participate do look interesting, though. Maybe next year. Readathons don’t work so well with me. The kids tend to make it difficult to do nothing but read!
