What are you currently reading?
My first book of the year is Donna Alward’s Somebody Like You. It is the first book in a new series, so I am excited I get to be a part of the debut tour for this and I hope I get to continue following this series. At the time of writing, I have read the first five or six chapters and there is some definite tension between characters already. It’s about to get good!
Aiden Gallagher was only five years old when he appeared in a photograph on the Kissing Bridge. The town of Darling, Vermont, has used Aiden’s image on the famed bridge—local legend has it that a kiss there results in everlasting love—as part of its tourism campaign. Now, twenty years later, Aiden is asked to recreate the moment with the woman he once kissed: Laurel Stone.
Recently divorced, there’s nothing Laurel wants less than to pretend happily-ever-after with Aiden. As teenagers, their romance was no fairy tale—and Laurel has never quite forgiven Aiden for breaking her heart. But now that she is back in her hometown, and keeps bumping into police officer Aiden, Laurel can’t deny that there’s still a strong flicker between her and her old flame. Could it be that the Kissing Bridge is working its magic on Laurel and Aiden—and that all true love ever needed was a second chance?
I’ve also been listening to an audiobook, Cruel Beauty. I can’t believe I haven’t ever talked about it before on the blog because I’ve been listening since the end of October! I feel like I have shared the blurb before, so I don’t know. But I’ve slowly been listening every so often and I need to finish it up. This will be my first audiobook of the year!
Graceling meets Beauty and the Beast in this sweeping fantasy about one girl’s journey to fulfill her destiny and the monster who gets in her way-by stealing her heart.
Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.
Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.
With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she’s ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.
But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle—a shifting maze of magical rooms—enthralls her.
As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex’s secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.
What did you just finish reading?
I was hoping to finish Faith in Every Footstep for the new year, but I actually eeked it out on the last day of 2016! Now I have to find a new book for F for my Alphabet Soup Challenge, and I’m OK with that! I was happy to finish the year with 55 books read.
I was confused about this book. Nearly done with it is when I discovered this is NOT the second book in this series that Wesley Banks is writing. It is in fact the first book….but it was published second. The second book in the series that I read a few years ago for its debut tour, Hope in Every Raindrop, was actually the second book. The series is actually called Faith, Hope, and Love. That’s all confusing to me. I’ve never heard of something like that happening before. Have you?
Look for a review soon.
What do you think you’ll read next?
My next read (when I get it) will be Staying for Good. I have a review scheduled for January 30th and I’m nervous they will not send the book in time to read. Until it comes in, I’ll be continuing with the rest of the Power of the Matchmaker series books.
How about you? What are you reading this week?

Cruel beauty looks really interesting ☺
I read Cruel Beauty this past year and didn’t enjoy it as much as I had hoped I would. I’ll be interested to hear what you think 🙂
Oh. 😦 There are definite things I keep noticing that are annoying me, but I am very curious how things turn out. In all, it’s a strange read.
Strange is a good way to sum it up 😉
I loved the previous books by Donna Alward so I’m really looking forward to this one. Glad to hear you’re enjoying it!
I have actually heard of a second book coming out first – The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis came out before The Magician’s Nephew. To be fair, they don’t depend on each other, but that is a case of a prequel/first book coming out second.
Hope you enjoy your reads!
