Sunday Post ~ Hello, Fall!

0abf9b9e-b7ac-4d59-b451-7eb7c64ea1b9_zps47hi5hueThe Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things received, and share news about what is coming up on the blog for the week ahead. To get in on the Sunday funday, see the rules here: Sunday Post Meme.

This week felt like a week of Mondays. Thursday I was sent to a last-minute training at one of the elementary schools, and it was really nice to sleep in. I took my sleep meds for the first time since school started the night before. We also had enough time to go eat a real lunch at Panera Bread, which I’d never been to before. I got a tomato soup bread bowl and grilled cheese sandwich. It was delish!

I did an adult thing this week. My shower has dropped in pressure quite a bit lately. It got worse in the last three weeks, to the point I can’t get everything rinsed out of my hair or off my body. We have hard water, so I soaked the shower head for an entire day and night. It didn’t make much difference. I told my LL, who is suddenly being super helpful. I still have the original shower head but I was not motivated to dig it out. If it doesn’t work either, we’re going to have a problem.

2505949213516846I am still trying to trudge through these two and finish them. I’m getting closer to finishing Regarding Anna!

Hopefully I can knock both of these off my plate and move on. We need some separation.

My new books came! 😀

I loved the first Zach Delacruz book that I got last year at Jeff Anderson’s writing workshop, and he told us a new one was available for pre-order. Right that minute I went and bought it (two weeks ago) and it finally came this week!

I also pre-ordered the second installment in the Harry Potter illustrated set. I bought one for both myself and my mother, which I’m going to surprise her with for her birthday. I told her she had a surprise, but she doesn’t know what it is. 🙂

This is a feature I am adding to my Sunday Posts. After being asked by a coworker – in all seriousness – if I had a life, I decided to join disc jockey Bobby Bones of Kase 101 in doing one human thing each week.

How does it work?

In order to not lose what little sanity I have left and in order to not become enslaved to the Texas Education Agency via my school district, I will…

  • leave school within an hour of dismissal once a week
  • go do one human thing with another human
  • talk about my human thing on the blog each week

deepwaterhorizonposterI really didn’t have a Human Connection thing this week that fits the criteria. I did go to the grocery store, which is as close as I could get to interacting with other humans in a non-work related setting. And I did talk on the phone with one of my dearest friends. I also talked to one of my brothers on Friday through texts.

Saturday night the man and I went to see Deepwater Horizon, the new film about the BP oil spill in 2010. I remember when this happened, and my kids researched it last year for Shark Week. I knew about BP bulldozing over the test inaccuracies, but watching the film about so many of the rig employees throwing up red flags and expressing concerns – and being bullied into continuing – and seeing such graphic and up-close explosions as the aftermath was unsettling. I was continually clenching the man’s arm. It was a fantastic movie and I loved Mark Wahlberg’s character (Mike Williams). At the end of the film, they show footage of various rig members being sworn in or testifying, as well as a touching memorial for the 11 who lost their lives.

We went to eat afterwards and talked about the movie, and about the preview we saw for a new movie coming out about the Boston Marathon bombings. When we saw the preview, it didn’t sit well with either of us.

  1. Deepwater Horizon really looks like a good movie. I do love movies based on real events. I haven’t done much with anyone outside of my home either this week. I hope they get the water pressure thing sorted out for you. I had something similar happen here becuase the spout to the tub wouldn’t close and we ended up lossing pressure as most of the water was not being directed to the shower. It ended up being a nightmare and the replacement we bought didn’t fit the “universal” new spout we bought. We ended up hiring a plumber. It got expensive. I guess that is one of the perks of leasing….someone else needs to fix it. I hope this week is smooth for you!

  2. I love Panera Bread. lol I could eat there all the time. Hope the shower head thing works out. How irritating!

I heard Deepwater Horizon was really good, my aunt saw it. She loved it. I’m hoping to see it soon. Have a great week.

  3. I hope you get the shower sorted and I hate that adulting crap. I’ve had to do a lot of it lately!

As for the sleeping… I got some stuff from my doctor 3-4mths ago and I don’t take them every night but they’ve made a huge difference to my sleeping patterns.

  4. I definitely love your idea of doing “human” things – sometimes it feels like life is nothing more than going to work, doing chores, going to bed and repeating the same cycle over and over again! Even something as simple as going to see a movie with a loved one or friend can be just the thing to help bring some spark back into life!
