I Can’t Stand…

Is there a book/series that everybody seems to love, but you can’t stand? Why?

I hated the Twilight series. My college roommates and girls next door made me read them. I acquiesced because I was being left out. A lot. I felt so out of the loop. I read them. I thought they were shoddily written and had a lot of eyerolling going on. Then they carted me off to see the movies. I thought these were even worse! I would have picked different actors for the film. There were a few scenes that cinematically were done very well.

For the most part, I don’t give into hyped books. So I don’t stay up with current releases that there is a great divide on (typically YA).

There is a book that I will rave about to my dying day that seems to have a a stigma in the YA world: Looking for Alaska. There are so many who bash this book, don’t understand it, hate it, etc., and I will always champion this book. I’ve written about it before here on the blog and talked about it a lot over the years. My Famous Last Words feature derives from this book and my connection to it.

Is there a book you can’t stand that others love?

  1. I’m with you on Twilight, although kudos to you for getting past the first book! I find that a lot of YA books are polarizing like this, so it’s probably no surprise that I can think of several other books/series that are YA that fall into this for me – or where the opposite is true!
