Pretty Wicked
Kelly Charron
Publication date: September 30th 2016
Genres: Thriller, Young Adult

The daughter of a local police detective, fifteen-year-old Ryann has spent most of her life studying how to pull off the most gruesome murders her small Colorado town has ever seen.

But killing is only part of it. Ryann enjoys being the reason the cops are frenzied. The one who makes the neighbors lock their doors and windows on a hot summer’s day. The one everyone fears but no one suspects.

Carving out her own murderous legacy proves harder than she predicted. Mistakes start adding up. And with the police getting closer, and her own father becoming suspicious, Ryann has to prove once and for all that she’s smarter than anyone else—or she’ll pay the ultimate price.

Written in a mature YA voice. Some graphic content.

CHAPTER 1:

Some people are called to certain things in their life. That’s what hunting is for me. An urge. A desire. The closest thing I have to a calling.

My name is Ryann Wilkanson. I’m fifteen years old.

And I’m a killer.

It was hard to pick my first. Call me sentimental, but it had to be just right.

I knew what I wanted. What I needed. Someone worth the risk, the challenge. Somebody who deserved it. Now, I’m not talking about the horrible, abusive assholes you see on TV. I wanted someone who I thought deserved it…

And to be honest, that could’ve been just about anybody.Read More »

Mega Bundle Blitz + Giveaway: Random Series

Random Series Mega Bundle
Julia Kent
(The Random Series, #1-8)
Publication date: August 3rd 2016
Genres: Comedy, New Adult, Romance

From New York Times bestselling author Julia Kent comes a very special sale. Regular price $25.99!

Darla’s not the type to pick up hitchhikers on the turnpike in rural Ohio — especially naked ones. She also didn’t plan to have her first book become a New York Times and USA Today bestseller, and turn into eight books of heart, heat, hilarity and crazy comedy mixed in with wild, deep romance that lasts and lasts…

The Random Series giant boxed set contains the first 8 books in the Random series, a bestselling saga that defies categorization. Romantic comedy, heart-stopping drama, unconventional sensuality, rock star gods, mousy librarians with quite a nightstand drawer stash, a mother who is addicted to sweepstakes winnings, sugar-free gummy bears that cause a CDC scare, and a chicken running for president (who probably polls better than any of the current choices)…you won’t find another book series quite as “random” as this.

Save when you buy this omnibus, and sink into a half a million words of fun and love.

This boxed set contains:

Random Acts of Crazy (Book 1)
Random Acts of Trust (Book 2)
Random Acts of Fantasy (Book 3)
Random Acts of Hope (Book 4)
Randomly Ever After: Sam and Amy (Book 5)
Random Acts of Love (Book 6)
Random on Tour: Los Angeles (Book 7)
Merry Random Christmas (Book 8)

Blitz + Giveaway: Ky

Ky
Irish Winters
(In the Company of Snipers #13)
Publication date: September 27th 2016
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense

TEAM Agent Ky Winchester survived a brutal encounter with a Taliban madman only because of a woman with green eyes, an angel he thought he’d dreamed in the depths of torment. She came to him in that far off torture chamber, cloaked in the tender magic of hope, and because of her, he was willing to believe he might survive his nightmare. It’s too bad he never thought to ask her name. Too bad he’ll spend the rest of his days searching for her.
Whoever she is…

FBI Agent Eden Stark is the Bureau’s number one and very top-secret psychic asset. While running from a different kind of madman, this one intent on mechanizing America’s military, turning them into controllable drones, Eden’s plane goes down in the frigid Canadian north. It’s very probable she won’t survive the night. Two meched-up FBI agents are already tracking her. Maybe wolves.
Maybe someone else.

More about the In the Company of Snipers Series, from the Author:

This series revolves around ex-Marine scout sniper, Alex Stewart, and his covert surveillance company, The TEAM, home-based out of Alexandria, Virginia. An obsessive patriot and workaholic, he created the company to give ex-military snipers like him a chance at returning to civilian life, a chance at normal, with a decent job.

This is not a serial with each book ending at a cliffhanger. I wouldn’t do that to you. I hate cliffhangers! In the Company of Snipers is a collection of passionate love stories involving strong men and women who are tough enough to take on the world alone. Each is a stand-alone read, complete in itself.

Spoiler alert: Every story contains adult scenes including sexual situations (some explicit), language, and violence. I don’t write sweet romance, so be forewarned.

Book 1, ALEX, reveals how The TEAM came to be, as well as how Alex met Kelsey, how they fell in love and fought all odds to stay together. Each of the following books is a complete romance in itself where, in the course of an active TEAM operation, one agent comes face to face with his or her demons. The men and women I write about are all patriots and warriors, dealing with what they’ve lived through or the mistakes they’ve made.

It’s my hope that you’ll come to realize, along with my heroes, that Love Changes Everything…Read More »

Feature Follow Friday ~ September 30, 2016

feature-and-follow
Feature & Follow is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. The goal of Feature & Follow is to meet new bloggers, make friends, and gain readers.

I Can’t Stand…

Is there a book/series that everybody seems to love, but you can’t stand? Why?

I hated the Twilight series. My college roommates and girls next door made me read them. I acquiesced because I was being left out. A lot. I felt so out of the loop. I read them. I thought they were shoddily written and had a lot of eyerolling going on. Then they carted me off to see the movies. I thought these were even worse! I would have picked different actors for the film. There were a few scenes that cinematically were done very well.

For the most part, I don’t give into hyped books. So I don’t stay up with current releases that there is a great divide on (typically YA).

There is a book that I will rave about to my dying day that seems to have a a stigma in the YA world: Looking for Alaska. There are so many who bash this book, don’t understand it, hate it, etc., and I will always champion this book. I’ve written about it before here on the blog and talked about it a lot over the years. My Famous Last Words feature derives from this book and my connection to it.

Is there a book you can’t stand that others love?

EXCERPT:

Beads of sweat broke out along my hairline. I wiped them away, tightened my ponytail, and ran faster along the dirt trail, jumping over exposed roots and ducking under low-hanging branches. Pine trees, firs, and alders turned my path into more of an obstacle course than a trail.

A twig snapped behind me.

I glanced back, but didn’t see anything. Probably just a raccoon.

My sneaker hit a root and my arms flew in front of me. I landed on my hands and knees, and slid down an incline. Rocks and branches dug into my skin until I crashed into a huckleberry bush.

I stood and dusted myself off. Blood dripped from my legs. I pulled twigs, dirt, and small rocks from the cuts.

“Nice work, Victoria,” I muttered to myself.Read More »

What is on your fall TBR? Do you choose to focus on specific genres for fall?

First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros: Almost Midnight

First Chapter First Paragraph

Today I’m participating in First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros, hosted by Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea, in which bloggers share a bit about a book they’re reading or planning to read soon.

18984488Chapter 1

You’ll find your soulmate, honey. At the stroke of midnight, on a mountain road, when all seems lost, he’ll come like a knight on his white horse.

Twenty-eight-year-old Hannah Elliot dropped her head to the steering wheel of her old two-door coupe as she thought about her mother’s dream. Okay, it was almost midnight, and her car had just died on a mountain road. That part was right. But soulmate? Knight on a white horse? Nope, she didn’t think so. Things like that didn’t happen in the twenty-first century in the middle of Colorado.

With a moan, she lifted her gaze and stared straight ahead as a cool June breeze rustled through the nearby pines. Shadows danced in the moonlight, giving the place an almost magical charm. She had to admit, a knight on a white horse who knew something about cars would look pretty good right now.

Her cell phone was dead. She was going to charge it last night, but of course, she had loaned the recharger to a neighbor a few days ago, and it had never been returned. Besides, the cell reception didn’t work too well on these mountain roads anyway.Read More »

With true love, there’s no such thing as a safe distance.

Staying fiercely independent has been her primary relationship strategy—until wealthy playboy pilot (and commitmentphobe) Glen Fairchild reappears in her life. After a yearlong teasing tug-of-war, Mary and Glen test the waters of attraction, only to find that their physical chemistry runs deeper than flirtation.

At first, a bicoastal romance suits them both—especially since Glen can swoop in and whisk Mary away on one of his company’s planes. But no matter how close they get, they’re still three thousand miles apart. And when Mary’s life is threatened, Glen realizes the one luxury he doesn’t have is time. Can he close the distance between them before it’s too late?

This is a new meme hosted by Sugar & Snark. It came about when Sugar was wondering which cover to use for her #70 Cover of the Week post. Sugar kept on thinking of more than one, and they all seemed to have a theme/characteristic. So she decided to switch things up a bit!

Each week we will post a characteristic and choose 5 of our favorite covers with that characteristic. If you want to join in and share your 5 favorite covers with the weeks particular characteristic, then just make a post, grab the meme picture (or make your own) and leave your URL in Linky (so we can visit). You don’t even need to participate, just stopping by and saying hi would be great! Don’t forget to stop by the other participants!

Today’s Cover Characteristic: Big Ben

The #1 Big Ben book cover is Peter Pan, so I thought I would find non-Pan books and then also include versions of the Peter Pan cover. 🙂 There are a tone of Peter Pan covers, many with Big Ben featured (as in some of the covers below) and many more without. I liked nearly ALL of the Pan covers I saw.
