Famous Last Words #5

Famous Last Words

Famous Last Words is a new monthly feature here in Land of 1000 Wonders. I wanted to find a new way to share some fabulous quotations from reads old and new. The inspiration for this feature came from the character Pudge in John Green’s Looking for Alaska.

Love, laughter & happily ever after.

Andra Stone is a young woman born into the wrong family. Her mother wanted a debutante. Her father wanted a little boy to grow up to be a brilliant doctor. She was supposed to learn how to be a socialite and host parties while her older brother earned all the degrees and awards. Extremely traditional to the max.

That’s not Andra. Despite her family having more than enough money to pay for college, Andra makes a point of not having to depend on them. Depending on daddy’s checkbook meant he pulled the strings. Instead, Andra does everything entirely on her own. When she loses her scholarship, she finds a way to pay her way to becoming a heart surgeon.

Everett Covington is her college boyfriend’s – or rather, ex boyfriend’s – roommate and friend. Although, after his shenanigans, they don’t stay friends for long, and Everett is there to help Andra when she could use a friend. He was there to help her when the cops showed up and when she lost her scholarship, and he’s there when she loses the apartment she has been waiting on for over a year. One day it is just too much for her to take, but Everett winds up at her hospital as a transfer student.

Two major things happen, and when Andra returns it’s like she’s in a blur, and Everett leaves her be. Seven years later, after residencies and working in their professions, Andra is stunned to learn that Everett is now working in her hospital.

Every time Everett showed up in the book, Miss Pearl wasn’t far behind him.

This is the fifth book in the Power of the Matchmaker series, Four Chambers.

  1. Ooh, I do like that quote! It’s actually such good life advice, right?!? I hadn’t even heard of this author/series before. :O
Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!

  2. It is great life advice, so I had to pick it! The series isn’t written by the same author – it is written by 12 writers. One book releases each month this year, and Miss Pearl is the recurring character throughout the series.
