Sunday Post ~ Killer Internet, Slithering Snakes, and the Send-Off

0abf9b9e-b7ac-4d59-b451-7eb7c64ea1b9_zps47hi5hueThe Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things received, and share news about what is coming up on the blog for the week ahead. To get in on the Sunday funday, see the rules here: Sunday Post Meme.

State testing days are over! There are 12 more days of school, and then our final staff day! Whoot! The man’s dad flew out last night. During the week they…did a ride out…had all the bushes in the back yard removed…and built this rockscape thingy. One of the bushes that was removed was a rattlesnake attractant. No wonder I nearly stepped on the rattlesnake at Thanksgiving! While at the park, talking about this very subject, of course we came upon another snake. Life!

I also lost it (nicely) on my Internet service provider. I did multiple internet speed tests from various providers. The average was less than 1 Mbps for downloads. I have the “extreme” Internet package of 50 Mpbs downloading. I wasn’t even getting 1/50 of what I was paying for! This is the third or fourth week of this, and each week I come back home it has been progressively getting worse. I finally had time to call (after calling about 8 numbers that did not work) and got the issue resolved (for now). I realized I am not only behind on my blog, I’m barely keeping up week to week because I’ve just been putting this whole thing off and unable to work at home. What I have gotten done was at the man’s or at work. I hope that all changes soon!

The man’s dad left Saturday afternoon. It was raining like crazy! He told me to take care of his boy, and that he’d be back in the fall! 🙂

We encountered another snake at the park Friday night. We had just walked past something dug up and were looking at it, and Baby had walked ahead with the slack in the leash. The man screamed “SNAKE!” Baby was literally standing one footstep away from it! It was off to the side of the path and coming up all curled around the rocks to the side of the sidewalk. It’s head was up and alert, and it was bleeding about half an inch back from its eye. Turns out something dug up it’s nest of eggs, and they were all broken. We threw rocks at it and let it decide if it was going to cross or turn around. Thankfully it didn’t take very long to decide, but I was more thankful that it didn’t get Baby. I’ve tried looking for photos of what kind of snake it was, but I’m not finding anything that looks like it. It was a high sheen black with very distinctive gold diamonds.

Remember, there are free audiobooks all summer long! Get your first week’s before they’re gone!

20160428_231025Alright, here is the signed book my friend brought back from her library conference, oh, four weeks ago. 🙂

I also won Rachel’s 2 year blogoversary international prize at Confessions of a Book Geek, and I selected The Neverland Wars! Apparently The Book Depository is showing it at double price what I am seeing it for, so we’re still working on resolving that. My back up is Kristin Hannah.

I also won Cilla’s Paved With Books giveaway and selected Matilda by Roald Dahl.

    • I should be able to. I don’t know if I’m teaching summer school or not, but even then I still have a lot of time to get things done. I won’t be doing nearly as many trainings as I did last summer. Essentially all of my “summer time off” was spent teaching and going to trainings.

  1. This is the first time in 17 years I haven’t been responsible for any of the state testing (although I do have two different district-required reading tests to administer before the end of the year.) The kids are slogging through our state testing, and I can really see the impact on their energy and behavior in my non-testing class.

Looks like you had some lucky wins this week! And THANK YOU for the info about free downloads. I missed the original post, but oh my goodness, I can’t wait to share the news with my middle school readers!

    • It really takes a toll. Kids who are good kids and try hard are beaten up over knowing they’ve always been in the bubble right below or right above failing and have been so nervous. State testing has a significant impact. I hope your kids enjoy the audiobooks! I love them!

  2. That’s frustrating about Internet speeds. I’m supposed to have fast speeds too but I suspect I’m not getting what I’m paying for (which is exorbitant)- I should do a speed test. Scary stuff about the snake- glad everything was okay. Crazy the stuff we have to watch out for!

    • Yes, run a test every week or so. I think I’m going to start doing that and keeping track with screenshots. I’m going to dog my ISP so they can’t say they didn’t know and everything looked fine. I’ve done my tango with a snake before (baby copperhead at age 2, fang scars still in my palm, scars from ports and IVs on my hand and arm) so I don’t get as flustered as most people, but I hate them nonetheless.

  3. Ohhh… so many snakes. I’m really snake phobic and can’t even look at pictures of them!

It sounds as if the visit with your boyf’s father went well and I’m sure you impressed him.

Oh, and I get your frustrations with internet options. I’m hoping I can sell my place and REALLY want to shop around before I commit to a provider next time around.

    • Sometimes I get like that about spiders. Like, why do you want to show me spiders? Just no. I loved having his dad down. They ribbed each other so much, and I know his dad wants to move down here. Gotta work on getting stepmom on board! I hope your place sells soon! It’s the one thing you need right now so you can start making new plans. Next time I am definitely shopping around, too!
