What are you currently reading?

Bread of the Dead finally came in! I stayed up as long as I possibly could three nights to read and I’m over halfway through it. The MC has quite a hilarious inner dialogue. However, I wasn’t prepared for the book to be so long for a cozy mystery. I am starting to stress a little bit that I’m not going to finish it in time for the review tour.

The Day of the Dead is approaching in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and cook Rita Lafitte is busy decorating sugar skulls, taste-testing pan de muerto (bread of the dead), and refashioning her post-divorce life. She loves her job at Tres Amigas Cafe and feels like she’s found a good home for herself and her teenage daughter…until her kindly landlord is found dead next door, seemingly from suicide.Although Rita discovers evidence of murder, the police aren’t convinced, especially one of the lead detectives who’s also Rita’s ex-husband. To uncover the truth behind her friend’s death, Rita teams up with her octogenarian boss Flori, the town’s most celebrated snoop. Soon, their investigation encompasses other crimes, including break-ins and the murder of their number-one suspect. Rita won’t feel safe until the killer is caught. But when she unearths a long-buried secret, will she become the next victim?

What did you just finish reading?

The Water Nymph was much more than I anticipated. As the plot progressed, I kept thinking the book was further along than it really was. There was quite an…erotic…touch to this installment in the Arboretti series. If I couldn’t eat peaches before, I don’t think I ever can now.

Look for a review of this second installment sometime in October.

Or maybe November. I’m just getting lazy about writing reviews.

But…Blog Ahead Challenge is next month to cushion posts for November….I’ll probably write the review in October for November…maybe. Who knows. I just want to read.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Since September is for Series, I’m going to try to finish up the Arboretti series.

Lady Killer – Arboretti Family #3

Three years ago Miles Loredan believed he had killed the bloodthirsty fiend known as the Vampire of London. When a beautiful sleuth named Clio Thornton stumbles upon what can only be the Vampire’s latest victim, Miles is drawn into a terrifying race against the clock. Captivated at once by intelligent, lovely Clio, his first impulse is to protect her. Because every clue points to the Vampire’s next victim: Clio.

Secret Admirer – Arboretti Family #4

Lady Tuesday Arlington has always used her painting as a refuge from the nightmares that plague her sleep. When her husband is murdered in a setting that uncannily resembles one of Tuesday’s paintings, the young widow becomes the prime suspect.

Lawrence Pickering, the Earl of Arden and an investigator in service of Queen Elizabeth I, begins to follow Tuesday’s every move, certain of her guilt—until Tuesday becomes a target herself. Intrigued by her knowledge of the crime scenes as well as her stunning beauty, Lawrence vows to protect her. But how can he stop a killer who appears capable of the impossible—invading Tuesday’s mind?
